Why do we need Purposeful leaders now more than ever?

The human race has evolved exponentially owing to the transformation our species has brought over the period of its existence on earth. We have transitioned from being a hunter-gatherer to a state where Artificial Intelligence is overtaking a part of our tasks & our intelligence. The wealth generated in the process has funded our survival and a life where the definition of comforts is ever-evolving.

To generate this value, corresponding costs would have been incurred. But who paid the cost for our existence? Our environment is the prime victim as we have been depleting earth’s resources mindlessly to feed our materialistic consumption. Today the total consumption by the whole human race has surpassed the amount required for the survival of entire humanity. Still, we have not been able to bring a large chunk of the human population closer to survival. This inequity has already caused significant societal imbalances. If these disparities are not fixed, they will lead to intractable consequences.

Driven either by logic or consciousness, some Leaders have realized the need to bring things back in balance. They have realized that we need to fix things, else the consequences would be borne by the very generation we wish to accumulate for.

But are we doing enough? The damage that has been done, and the pace with which we continue, can only be countered if we transition the thought process at a mass level. We need to equip the next generation with a wiser thought process. Parallelly we would have to transform the adult generation positioned at the helm of Industry. We need more leaders to shift their focus from a profit-only approach to a purpose-with-profit approach.

How do we bring this transformation? We need a drastic shift in the mindset of the leaders, businesses, customers & society as a whole from a short-term “Me first” approach to a long-term US-driven approach. This in itself would need a new revolution. A revolution that can place ‘Values & Virtues’ at the heart of our motivations, which were dethroned from their position by Power & Wealth.
